2 Masaza soccer fans die in road accident

2  supporters of Buddu County Football Club have died in an accident on the Rakai –Kyotera road . The two were travelling on a  boda-boda motorbike died on Sunday while returning from a football match between Kooki County FC and Buddu County FC at Lwanda playground in Rakai District.

The game ended in a 0-0 draw.

The boda boda bike on which the deceased were travelling, according to a witness, rammed into a Mitsubishi Fuso truck that was moving from the opposite direction, at Kasambya village near Kyotera Town.

“The rider failed to control the speeding motorcycle and rammed into an oncoming truck,” Mr Badru Mujuzi, an eye witness, said.

Mr Mujuzi said the third person who was travelling on the same motorcycle sustained seriou

s injuries and is admitted to Kalisizo Hospital.

Mr Muhammad Musa Kigongo, the spokesperson Buddu County regretted the incident, saying they would introduce safety measures to avoid such accidents.

“Safety has always been a major concern whenever we travel for a football match but some fans go against the set guidelines. They drink alcohol excessively and speed while returning –which puts their lives in danger,” Mr Kigongo said.

Ms Patience Baganzi , the officer in charge of Kyotera Police Station, said they are  yet to identify the deceased since they lacked identification documents .

“We are also still gathering information about the truck that knocked them and the people who were on board,” Ms Baganzi said.

Last year, four Gomba County FC fans died in accident at Kabasuma Swamp on the Mpigi-Gomba Road on their way to Mandela National Stadium Namboole for the Buganda Masaza Cup finals between Buddu  FC and Singo FC.
